Mr. Jackson's "GOP Needs Political Viagra"--article or book promotion?

Mr. Jackson, you had me until I got to the part about you and Tony Perkins writing a book. That made it obvious that this is not a meaningful article but rather shameless self-promotion. In your humble opinion, the book is "a blueprint for a spiritual awakening in our nation which will also revitalize the GOP. We believe that this book is a must read (sic) for every serious conservative or evangelical churchgoers (sic) in America." That puts it right up there with ... I dunno ... the Bible?

Perkins, along with Tom Minnery, runs Family Research Center, an arm of Dobson's Focus on the Family. Neither organization has been able to produce "a blueprint for a spiritual awakening (or) revitalize the GOP." Why would Perkins' book accomplish this when his two major organizations have not?

Perkins and Minnery minimized Mike Huckabee's candidacy in favor of "Plastic Man" Romney. Dobson's personal endorsement of Huckabee came too late. The three have been invisible in support of the only remaining candidate that adheres to the principles they espouse. Conservative and GOP elites also committed the error of sidelining Huckabee. The result is that we will live 4 to 8 years in Obamanation.

Lest I am attacked for negative statements about Focus and Family Research, I supported them for years. Until now.

And to those who will no doubt scoff at my support for Huckabee, I suggest you visit his site. He offers the platform (check out "Issues") and the experience (see "About") to potentially accomplish what the author of this advertisement is proposing. In regard to his appeal to a broad spectrum of social and fiscal conservatives, read some of the blog posts and note especially the list of "Bloggers for Huckabee." Both of these reflect a broad base: Christians of all persuasions from evangelicals to Catholics, Jews (due to his strong support for Israel), secular conservatives (a contradiction in my opinion, but there it is), Fair Tax, free trade only when it's fair trade, finish the mission in Iraq, Veterans Bill of Rights, border security, health care, education and more.

If the pundits here at TH and in other media (and the "establishment" elites) had covered all the candidates evenly and fairly and let the people decide instead of promoting their personal favorites perhaps we wouldn't be in this mess, i.e., an Obama tyranny. Now they focus their attention on whining about the loss of their faves and on attacking Clinton and Obama. If that time and energy were focused on the positive (supporting Huckabee, the only viable candidate left) instead of the negative there could be a chance to avoid the gloom and doom that awaits us.
